The Spire looks to provide a place for everyone regardless of age, ability, orientation or economic background. This is especially evident with our partners and all the programs run in our building.
We strive to be inclusive!
The Spire primary entrance can be accessed from the South side of the building on William Street. The secondary laneway entrance is also accessible, but not always unlocked for public use.
There are three designated accessibility parking spots located off the laneway on the North side of The Spire from Sydenham Street. We ask that you refrain from parking in other permitted parking spaces.
There is a user-friendly accessible elevator between the first and second floors. This was installed in 2018 with help from donors and a grant from the Rick Hanson Foundation. Our staff are happy to assist you with using the elevator.
Each floor has a washroom that is accessible to visitors of all abilities. Most washrooms at The Spire are now gender neutral.
LGBTQ+, BIPOC and Social Justice
The Spire works towards creating a safe space for all. From our initiatives like our gender neutral washrooms to some of our various partner programs, we support a wide variety of causes.
As economic factors can be another barrier for people, we provide programs and resources for people of various income. Some of these include our community garden initiative that 100% of the produce gets donated to Loving Spoonful and the Helen Tufts Child Outreach Program that has Queen’s Students volunteering with disenfranchised youth.
